Drywall might be susceptible to mold growth from moisture in the basement, but it makes for the best looking finish. Ceiling Tiles is probably the way to go.

Drywall is not a good idea for a ceiling, since it blocks access to the electrical, cable and plumbing that runs through and along the joists. The best product I have seen is Armstrong's ceiling planks. They are hund and removed with a screw gun. I put in Woodhaven in one room and it looks terrific. A bit expensive, though.

As for moisture, every basement should have a dehumidifier. Cost is as low as $200-300. Mount it to the wall and have it drain into the sump or laundry sink (check code). Your drywall, subfloor and flooring will fare much better. This is not a subsitute for a dry basement and keeping water from intruding into the basement space is first a landscaping issue, second a barrier issue, and third a dehumidifier issue.

Drywalls are not the best choice for basements. They are porous and made with organic compounds, so they soak in moisture and support mold growth.
The bottom line is: basements are prone to water problems. Even the driest basements are at risk. If not from seepage, from things like a leaky pipe, a broken washing machine hose, or a corroded water heater.
You should not use anything organic to finish a basement, unless you don't mind replacing finishes repeatedly over the years.

Another idea is to install speakers into your ceiling and walls. This is really good for those who want to listen to music in their basements.
