Granite Kitchen Countertops/Worktops
Granite has always been synonymous with quality mainly because it has until recently been unaffordable to most people. It is a wonderful material as it is highly durable (which is ideal if you are an avid cook) plus looks stunning.
Colors of Granite
Although you can only buy granite in natural colours there is still a good choice available so as to compliment the rest of your kitchen. Shades of brown and black are the most popular but you can also find greens, blues and reds.
Durable
Granite is one of the most durable materials in the world which is why granite is often used for chopping boards. You also don’t have to worry about placing a hot pan onto it as it won’t blister or warp.
Prices of Granite
Although granite has come down in price over the last 10 years, it is certainly not one of the cheapest kitchen counter materials you can choose, with prices starting at $60 a square foot. The reason granite has become more affordable is due to the manufacturing process and increased demand. You may think of reducing the cost by installing it yourself however this is one area of home improvement which should be left to the professionals.
Sealing Granite
Because granite is a porous stone you will need to apply a sealant every so often to prevent stains.
Alternatives to Granite
Some people are choosing quartz instead of granite, sometimes it can be cheaper but not always. The main benefit is that there is a wider colour choice including bright red and blue. It also has a more predictable colour so you’ll have a better idea of what you are going to get.
