Mice exterminators need to know a lot about getting rid of mice.  If you are the kind of person who doesn’t want to do much work or is squeamish about pests such as mice then getting mice exterminators in is a good idea.  However if you want to do things yourself you are really going to have to know what you are getting yourself in for.

A lot of people with a mice problem think all they have to do is set a few traps and within days their mouse problem is a thing of the past.  Sure, traps are going to be part of the solution but simply killing these furry creatures won’t strictly achieve what you want.

One thing that should be pointed out about mouse traps is that there are a load of different types.  Some people don’t like the idea of killing mice so have humane traps laid down.  Basically you just trap the mice and then let them go.  However what people don’t realize is that the mice will just come back if you don’t take them far enough away.  So this means driving at least a couple of miles to a location where you can set the mouse free.  Imagine doing this every day for possibly weeks or months.

The mice you set free could well be gone forever and not come back into your house.  But where there’s one mouse there’s bound to be dozens more.  They breed very quickly and they actually defecate when the walk.  Which means that other mice can smell their trail and just follow it into your nice warm cozy house with plenty of yummy food to nibble at.

So how to you stop the mice from getting into you home?  You need to figure out how the mice are getting in.  This is easier said than done.  Mice are tiny and can squeeze in through the tiniest gaps, cracks and holes.  However you can sometimes get a clue buy thinking about when the mice problem began.  Some people notice the mice getting into the house after they had an extension built or have wires routed in from outside.  So look at the area where this work too place to see if there are any places a mouce could fit through.  If you do find spaces then you can go about filling them in.

There are different ways that you can go about closing up gaps including the use of caulk and expanding foam.  It really depends on the size of the gap.  If it’s a large gap you can also use some metal scouring pads because this will make it more difficult for the mice to chew through.  If you’re really not sure about doing any of this work yourself you should consult with a mice exterminator who will advise you better.  They have experience of many different houses and they can draw on that experience when it comes to your individual case.

So a combination of setting traps or poison along with filling up gaps is the way to go when you want to eliminate a mouse infestation.  There are people who also swear by having a cat or a Jack Russell dog in the house to kill the mice.  Of course, you don’t want to buy a pet specifically for this purpose because a pet should be loved, cared for and considered a part of the family.  However it does go to show that there’s more than one course of action which is why mice exterminators are in such demand from home owners.
