Make Money Online with Blogger Unleashed
It’s seems like it’s everyone’s dream to quit their day job and make money on the internet. The problem is there are so many ways to do this and most people quit after just a few months. One guy might be able to help is Vic from Blogger Unleashed. Here are a few things I have learnt from him so far:-
Google is Like the Stock Market - We all know that trading the stock market is all about anticipating what everyone else is going to do. This is the same with creating websites. Vic talks about how he anticipated what people would be searching the internet for after seeing a movie called Resurrecting the Champ. I never though of doing anything like this. When creating sites I’ve always thought of the long-term; topics such as DIY and wine.
Although writing about current trends will generally only give you a burst of traffic, it’s hopefully going to be worth it. I think it also shows Google that your site is providing info that other sites aren’t which makes you more trust worthy. Who knows. It certainly seems to be a good way for making money quickly and not having to wait for ages for you’re site on fluffy rabbits to age and rise in the SERPs.
I think you shouldn’t underestimate what people are looking for. I will give you one example from my own experience as an internet user.
In the UK there is a show called Dragon’s Den where entrepreneurs go in front of investors looking for money to start up or expand a business. I was watching a repeat from a few years ago and was curious about one of the businesses run by two guys wanting money to expand a website on student accommodation. They ended up not getting any money because the greedy dragons wanted way too much of a share in the business. I was curious to see where they were now so typed in something like “dragons den student accommodation.” Up popped the site and it seemed that a number of people had already done what I was doing and had left comments for them saying how they were correct to walk away from the deal.
Who knows how many people had typed in similar searches but potentially it could have been a lot. Perhaps the show doesn’t get enough viewers to get a huge amount of traffic but you might strike it lucky and end up with thousands of hits.
(On a side note, Griz also expanded on this topic where he shows you one of his celebrity cites he created. I have been experimenting with both techniques. At the moment it’s too soon to tell if it is working for me. Google seems to be doing a bit of a Spring clean and is de-indexing a lot of sites and taking ages to index new ones. I get the feeling that using these techniques is a bit of an art form and will improve over time.)
Local Sites - Ages ago I created a site called Of Scotland after reading the info the Ken Evoy wrote about his daughter creating a site about Anguilla. Initially I set it up as a blog but had troubles with FrontPage extensions on my server interfering with the .htaccess so ended up turning it into a static site. I found it difficult to deal with it so just left it sitting there. Then in October I turned it into a photo blog but didn’t see how I could make any money with it.
Luckily Vic came along and I now have a better idea of what to do. The site has also aged nicely and is ranking for terms that it didn’t previously. I’ve also installed another blog in a subfolder called “directory” which will contain lots of articles geared towards local searches. Things like “cosmetic surgery in Glasgow” The competition for that term is pretty poor and one of the sites which is on the 1st page has no content whatsoever other than contact info for one surgeon. The rest of the screen is filled with Adsense.
Other things I have learnt is being a bit more aggressive with the link building. I’ve been a timid little mouse in comparison as I want to look natural. I bought Bookmarking Demon on his advice in order to automate submitting my sites to many different places. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks now so it’s very difficult to know if it’s worth it as these things can take time to have any effect. I’ve also been using Article Marketer (I should point out that Vic doesn’t use this?) however Court does. It can be difficult to isolate what is working and what isn’t. Perhaps they all work together like the ingredients of a cake.
He’s Not the Messiah - He’s a Very Naughty Boy: The internet is flooded with sites all claiming to help you make money. They position themselves as a bit of a Messiah who has also the info you need, all you have to do is listen. (I should know, I’ve followed a few.) But remember what Brian of Monty Python’s Life of Brian said “You should all think for yourself. You’re all individuals. You’re all different.” Vic nor anyone else can magically make you money on the internet. You have to take all the info on board and decide what is right for you. Then work bloody hard at it. You have to work consistently and not just abandon sites because you’re not making instant money. I’ve found that when revisiting sites I left to rot (including this one) I started to get a lot more Google love. This is one of the reasons Vic is adamant that you should avoid buying a brand new domain and buy an aged domain instead. Just make sure it’s indexed as I’ve bought previously owned domains that weren’t indexed and I ended up having to go to Google to submit a re-inclusion request.
Another thing I should point out about Vic is that he doesn’t take any prisoners and loves to use the F word. I reckon he’s a big softy really and is just trying to be like Gordon “Fucking” Ramsay. Anyway, on that note I thought I’d play us out with a clip from my favourite sitcom Father Ted. In this clip Ted and Dougal are trying to write Ireland’s entry to the Eurovision song contest. Tensions get a little, um, frayed. Enjoy!
