For those who have a garden, spending as much time in it whilst the weather is dry is something that the majority of people love to do.  It doesn’t matter whether you just want to sit quietly listening to the birds singing whilst you read a good book, or whether you want to entertain friends and family with a barbeque.  One of the ways you can make your time in the garden more comfortable is by having a fireplace installed.  The problem with having a fireplace is that it’s not cheap to have them fitted.  Also, it’s important that you have adequate space, which is something that not all people have.  So if you like the idea of having a fireplace but it’s simply not a practical option, you’re next choice should be a chiminea or fire pit.

In recent years the chiminea has become very popular by home owners as they are very affordable to buy.  However some people aren’t so keen on the appearance and feel that they are a bit too rustic looking.  Personally I think they are rather charming and add a lot of character to the décor of your garden however if you don’t agree there is another option.  There are now fire pits, also referred to as fire tables, which will appeal to those with more modern tastes.

You can either have a fire pit which is a permanent feature of your garden or you can select a portable model which can meet most people’s requirements.  The majority of the fire pits on the market use either wood, propane or natural gas to produce heat.  Whichever model of fire-pit you choose to buy, you will discover that they are considerably easier to install and much less expensive than a stone fireplace.

You can even build your own fire pit, however if you decide to do so, make sure you buy a fire pit kit.  When you build a fire pit you will either use a brick or concrete enclosure.  It is a whole lot easier just to buy the kit rather than try and work out what it is you need to buy and in what quantities.  However if you feel that you are up to the challenge and don’t want to buy a kit, you will need to buy the different items individually and these include a fire ring, frame, ignition system and log set.  Make sure you do your homework so that you buy what you really need.

The simplest and easiest option for having a fire pit in your garden is to buy a portable variety.  There are different types, prices and sizes to choose from and a lot of them feature a copper bowl where you burn the wood.  If you want to do a bit of cooking then you can add a grill to it.  If you like the idea of taking your fire pit away with you camping or to the beach, there are ones which are small enough to allow you to do this.

For something that bit more classy there are other models to choose from too.  There are ones made from glass fibre reinforced concrete and there is also a selection of colors to decide upon including terracotta, gray and white.  There are even some which are made from granite, however you should be aware that granite is a very heavy stone and so won’t be as portable as other materials, so you should decide where you want it to go in advance otherwise you will have quite a job moving it to another location.

People are really starting to make more use of their outdoor space and are seeing their gardens as an extension of their home, a place where they can chill out and enjoy the company of others.  Whatever it is you are wanting from a fire pit; it might be a focal point, a way of keeping warm or an unusual way to cook food, you will find that a fire pit is an excellent addition to any garden.  You certainly won’t have any regrets about buying one.
