Quartz surfaces are made from approx. 90% quartz and 10% epoxy resin with some composites looking just like real stone. Often people will call quartz kitchen counters Silestone however this is just one of the brands available, others include: DuPont’s Zodiaq, Formica’s Crystallite, Okite and HanStone.
Color and Finish of Quartz
There is a massive range of colours to choose from so you can be as daring or as conservative as you wish. As well as choosing which colour you prefer you will also need to choose the finish. Quartz can be polished or they can have a more textured surface to look like natural stone.
Durable
Quartz is highly durable and because it is not porous you don’t have any problems with liquid staining the quartz. Although it is recommended that you wipe up any spills to be on the safe side. Also, unlike granite, you don’t have to worry about sealing it every 6 months, which is ideal if you like everything to be as maintenance-free as possible.
Prices of Quartz
The cost is calculated by linear foot and you can expect to pay around $110 to $250 per linear foot.
Other Notes
As of 2005, Silestone have included Microban on their quartz counters which prevents the growth of germs and bacteria.
