If you have been unfortunate enough to have suffered from some water damage in your home then it’s imperative that you attend to this to prevent any other damage. First of all you should do your best to locate the cause of the leak and try and work out what needs to be done to remedy it. By dealing with the problem you’ll also be able to prevent any further damage. To quickly deal with the situation until a plumber arrives is to turn off the water to your home. You should then phone your local plumber to come out and fix the problem before phoning your insurance company to report the water damage. Your insurance company will then advise you on the next course of action. If there are items of furniture in your room which is dealing with the water damage then you should remove them along with such items like clothes, TVs, boxes and beds. Move these items to another part of your house which isn’t suffering from water damage.
When dealing with water damage you will this to be a very stressful process and one that you will not particularly enjoy. If you don’t want to deal with any more problems then they idea is that you move your valuables to another room for their own safety. Other personal items like bank statements and photos will also need moving. The reason these items need to be relocated with that water when left to stand can attract bacteria, mold and viruses and allow them to breed.
When items are soaked in wet water for 24 hours or even longer you will find that these objects suffer from mold which is not nice. When left for even longer you can find that you have the unwanted mold Stachybotrys which is toxic. This is not just theory it is certainly a fact.
When trying to sort out the problems caused by damp and excess water you might want to try some of these simple tips:-
If there is a lot of water you should do you’re best to get rid of as much as you can. You can simply use a basic mop for this or use a vacuum that can suck up water.
If there is any water on your wooden furniture this should also be removed along with any water that might be on lamps and other house items you want to protect from damage.
For those of you who own an air conditioning system in the summer you can easily turn it on to the mximum setting and this will very much help the damp situation. Also you can try to open some of your windows and doors so that the air can circulate more freely in the winter.
Any valuable art work should be taken down from the walls and taken to a saffer place. The same goes for rugs which you have on your floor, try hanging them up on your washing line so that they can dry out.
For upholstery which has gotten wet you should do your best to lift up the cushions and take them to another room or stand them up on end so that they can dry out.

Certainly mold is something that should never be encouraged, why would you want this horrible growth in your house anyway? This is what damp can cause along with a generally horrible smell and bad air quality. There are all sorts of other micro-organisms that can multiply too if you’re not careful about your water damaged room.
Flooding of your home can happen for all sorts of reasons such as faulty appliances, leaking gutters or naturally heavy rain. Unfortunately some places are very much prone to frequent flooding and this problem means that insurance companies have declared many regions not suitable for flood insurance.
